The Fajr International Music Festival
Fajr International Music Festival is Iran’s most prestigious Music Festival founded in 1986, several years after the formation of the film and theatre festivals in the artistic sphere of Iran. Since its formation, the festival has enjoyed the strong presence of many well-known artists from different Asian and European countries.
The festival was first called “The Revolutionary Songs and Anthems Festival” and twenty ensembles performed in its first edition to celebrate and embark on the first prominent music event of the country.
It went on with this name for four years, considered as the only happening in which the Iranian musicians and maestros could perform and hold concerts.
After the end of the imposed war against Iran in 1990, its name changed to “Fajr Music Festival”; this was perceived as a new beginning.
Two years later, the festival was held as an international event for the first time and several foreign ensembles came to Iran to perform in diverse musical genres, mostly from Muslim nations such as Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and India.
Though, this kindled the first sparkle and, in the course of the activities of the festival, the attendance of many well-known world musicians has paved the way for much more effective intercultural musical communications between Iran and other countries.
